The Indian sub continent is home to over 13 per cent of the total bird species found in the world. There are over 925 breeding species of birds which belong to 16 different groups called Orders, which are further sub divided into Families, Sub Families, and Genera.
The distribution of these Indian birds can be grouped into 13 bio-geographical regions. In South India, there are nearly 600 bird species of which about 28 are endemic only to the area and an additional 20 shared with the neibouring country Srilanka. During this program we shall be focusing on the Western Ghats-an important bio geographical region by visiting important places to learn in detail about the rich bio diversity in general and the avi fauna species in particular in this region
• Learn in detail about the rich diversity of birds in South India
• Visit prominent sanctuaries and national parks: Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary, Bandipur National
Park, Indira Gandhi National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary and Parambikulam Wildlife sanctuary.
• Learn about the critically endangered birds in this region.
• Understand about the conservation measures being undertaken to protect the species
