Early 1940s: During the Second World War, before India’s independence three young men, going around in bicycles, were helping British companies and Maharajas organize expeditions in the wilderness and various regions across the country. In 1946, the Englishmen took the relationship with the planners of these expeditions to another level, with the promoters naming the company “Bharat Travels”, with the surety that the country would be named ‘Bharat’ after independence. Ironically, as per the constitution, the country is labeled India, also known as ‘Bharat’. The founders decided to keep the name Bharat Travels before any other organization in India.
Late 1940s: A time when the founders of India were trying to integrate the 500 odd princely states into India and the people were rejoicing to embrace their new country. This is when Bharat Travels charters trains, converts them into frugal accommodation and runs trips across the country to help Indians discover their new country and make connections with the nation.
1950s: One of the first few organizations who got registered as a private company, Bharat Travels becomes the first accredited travel company in southern India when a hand written certificate is delivered. Bharat Travels incubates some of the giants of the travel trade today, including the Trade-Wings and SITA travels. The company also becomes a pioneer in conveying of many travel trade institution including TAAI, ASTA India and SKAL. Incorporated as a Private Limited company, and nurturing relationships since then, it continues to retain the same bankers – Central Bank Of India, chartered accountants – Suri & Company. In the start, Bharat Travels developed a comprehensive service module for large organizations – right from regular travel to arranging their conferences both in India and abroad.
1960s: As trade grew, tobacco, leather and garment traders were seeking export opportunities to reach overseas markets. Bharat Travels crossed the border to promote international trade fairs in Europe.
1970s: Traders and exporters became frequent travelers, thus bringing international destinations closer in their mindset. Bharat Travels promoted packaged family holidays to Europe and Far East.
1980s: There were growing awareness in the conservation area, and Bharat Travels were one of the pioneers in promoting Eco-tours of South India to foreign tourists.
1990s: Bharat Travels identifies its core strength as Indology. Programs themed around the Art, history Culture, Heritage and Anthropology enable participants to discover the richness of Bharat.
2000s: Having understood that Indology is the core strength, Bharat Travels started to strategically build its business resources and HR policy around its core strength. Following this, the focus was sharpened to cater to the needs of the Educational Travel market.
2010s: We experienced breakthrough success in customer acquisition Using these six and a half decades of experience, Bharat Travels uses its knowledge of India to deliver unique Indian experiences, which decipher contemporary India.
